He also announced compensation of two lakh rupees for the families of those killed in cyclone-related incidents in the states affected by the cyclone and Rs 50 thousand for the injured. The PM approved the package of assistance after a review meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and top officials to assess the damage caused by the cyclone here.

Due to the cyclone, water logging was created between Diu and Una town of Gir Somnath district on Monday and it has also caused significant damage to property. Trees have also fallen in large numbers in the area. After inspecting the affected areas, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting in Ahmedabad in which besides the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and senior officials of the state government were present.

Due to the cyclonic storm in Gujarat, the coastal areas suffered heavy damage, electric poles and trees were uprooted and many houses and roads were also damaged. Around 45 people have also died in incidents during this period. More than 200 talukas received rains due to the cyclonic storm. As a precaution, the state government had already evacuated more than two lakh people to safe places.

Mr. Rupani said on Tuesday that more than 16,000 houses were damaged; more than 40 thousand trees and more than 70 thousand electric poles were uprooted while electricity was lost in 5951 villages. It came into the state, being said to be the most frightening cyclone ever.

Due to ‘Tauktae’, heavy rains were seen from Saurashtra to the coast of northern Gujarat. At least 46 talukas received more than 100 mm of rainfall, while 12 received 150 to 175 mm of rainfall. The Cyclone moved northwards, bordering Ahmedabad district, in the afternoon. Before and during this time too, there were continuous heavy rains, which led to water logging in many areas of the city.
