During the second wave of Covid-19, cases of Black Fungus or Mucormycosis have increased in people recovering from this infection in hospitals and it is possible to have ‘irrational’ steroid intake at home without consulting a doctor. This fungal infection affects the brain, lungs, and ‘sinuses’ and can be fatal for diabetic patients and individuals with weakened immunity. In such a situation, the central government has given important instructions to the state governments to notify black fungus in epidemic law under notifiable disease and all case reports should be done. This means that all confirmed and suspected cases of black fungus will be reported to the Ministry of Health.
Black fungus cases are seen on patients recovering from corona. “All government and private hospitals and medical colleges have to follow the guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management of black fungus,” Joint Secretary Luv Agarwal of the Health Ministry said in a letter to the states.
At the same time, let us tell you that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today that three hospitals of Delhi Government will be made special centers for treatment of Black Fungus or Mucormycosis. Kejriwal made the announcement in a meeting here after deliberating with officials and experts on the growing cases of black fungus. He tweeted, “Made some important decisions in the meeting for the prevention and treatment of Black Fungus disease.” Centers for treatment of black fungus will be set up at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Hospital, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital. ”
Kejriwal said that adequate amount of medicines used in the treatment of this disease will be managed and it has been decided to spread awareness about the measures to prevent the disease. He also tweeted, “We also have to stop this disease from growing and those who are getting this disease have to give better treatment as soon as possible.”
