Story of Kedarkantha:

Kedarkantha is also known as Bal-Kedar and according to local people it was believed to be the site of Kedarnath. It is said that when Shiva in his bull incarnation was wandering in Kedarkantha to hide from the Pandavas, the local residents disturbed his peace. Because of which he had gone towards Kedarnath. The villagers of Sankri believe that Lord Shiva’s trident installed in Kedarkanth protects them and does not allow the Himalayan rivers to dry up.

Short Itinerary of Kedarkantha Trek:

Day 1: After reaching Sankri, take rest for the night here.

Day 2: Then you will trek to Kedarkanth Base Camp via Juda Ka Talab. You will then be provided with the facility to stay in the camp.

Day 3: Trek till the end of Kedarkanth and then back to base camp.

Day 4: After trek to Sankri you will stop here for rest.

Day 5: Then on this day you will prepare to return from Sankri.

  • Kedarkanth is a track of easy to moderate difficulty level and thus an ideal track for amateur trekkers or adventurers seeking first time trekking.
  • Try to keep the weight of your bag up to 10-12 kg.
  • Opt to do this track only with the help of experienced professionals or certified tour guides.
  • Be sure to carry a good camera with you as you will not get a better opportunity to click pictures of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and lush green valleys anywhere else.
  • Trekking during the monsoon season should generally be avoided, especially for those who are new to trekking, as the region receives incessant rains which can lead to cloudbursts, landslides and roadblocks.
  • Do not go for this trek alone unless you are accompanied by an experienced guide. Always trek in groups of two or more.
