Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat and Union Territory of Daman and Diu today and take stock of the situation and losses arising out of the cyclone “Tauktae”. He will also hold a review meeting in Ahmedabad. According to information received from official sources, the Prime Minister will leave Delhi at 9.30 am and reach Bhavnagar directly. From here, he will conduct an aerial survey of Una, Diu, Zafarabad and Mahuva areas by helicopter and take stock of the damage.
According to officials, he will also hold a review meeting in Ahmedabad. The Union Territory of Daman and Diu is made up of two districts (Daman and Diu). Both the districts are located at a distance of about 700 km on the Western Ghats of India. Daman is the headquarters of this union territory. Daman lies on the mainland while Diu is an island.
It may be noted that at least seven people lost their lives in Gujarat-related incidents of cyclone “Tauktae”, due to which there was heavy damage in the coastal areas, uprooted electric poles and trees and many houses and roads too.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the hailstorm has now weakened into a “cyclonic storm” and as it moves northward it will turn into “deep pressure”. The cyclone caused heavy rains in many parts of the state and around 35 talukas received more than an inch of rain. Due to heavy rains, many areas of Ahmedabad were flooded to their knees during the day.
