Ladakh on Wednesday announced its new state animal and bird, Snow leopard as state animal and black-necked crane as state bird. Both are very rare animal and birds and had been symbols of the state since a very long time.

The state has made this announcement two years after it was carved out as a separate Union Territory (UT) from the State of J&K.

If we talk about these animals then experts says that ladakh alone has snow leopards in the range between 200-300 individuals. But yes the relationship between the population of the state and this species is very fragile too.

In fact very few people know that the black-necked crane can only be found in Ladakh region. And also Black-necked cranes are considered as loyal couples.
