The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its monthly report that this year, May was the second highest rainfall in the last 121 years. The reason for this is two consecutive cyclones and western disturbances.

The IMD also said that India recorded an average maximum temperature of 34.18 degrees Celsius in May this time, which was the fourth lowest temperature since 1901. This is the lowest since 1977 when the maximum temperature recorded was 33.84 °C. He said that the lowest temperature ever recorded in May was 32.68 degree Celsius in 1917.

It told that there was no heat wave in any part of India in May. The entire country has received 107.9 mm of rain in May 2021, which is higher than the average of 62 mm. prior to this, the highest rainfall (110.7 mm) was received in 1990.

Cyclones occurred in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal in May. Cyclone Tauktae came in the Arabian Sea and Cyclone Yas came in the Bay of Bengal. Although there has been rain due to both these storms, but there was also a lot of damage. The Meteorological Department said that in the three months of summer 2021, the activities of Western Disturbance over North India remained above normal.
