Alert in other states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and heavy rains in Kerala due to hurricane ‘Tauktae’.
Amidst the corona epidemic, preparations are now underway to deal with cyclone ‘Tauktae’ in the Arabian Sea. An alert has also been issued from Maharashtra-Gujarat to Karnataka-Tamil Nadu regarding the storm Taukate. According to some advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and these coastal states, there has become a zone of pressure in the South Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area on Thursday. The IMD said in its warning report that it will turn into a deep pressure area in the same area by Saturday morning and thereafter it will take the form of a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. They have stated that it is likely to move towards north-northwest Gujarat and the Pakistani coasts. IMD said that it can reach near the Gujarat coast by the evening of 18 May. Let me tell you that Myanmar has given the name Taukta to this cyclone. This will be the first cyclonic storm off the Indian coast this year.
At the same time, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials have decided to postpone the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for the next two days in view of the warning of cyclonic storm Tauktae in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra.
The Brihanmumbai Metropolitan Municipality gave this information by tweeting on Friday, according to which the vaccination campaign in Mumbai was postponed.
Heavy rains and water logging occurred on Friday in many areas including Cochin city of Kerala. High waves also arose in the sea and fishermen were advised not to go into the sea. Normal life has come to a standstill due to heavy rains. Water entered houses in many areas including Chellanam, Kannamali, Manesari. This caused a lot of trouble for the people. Due to heavy rains in Kerala, four gates of Bhoothathankettu dam have to be opened in Ernakulam district to release water. According to the Meteorological Department, an area of deep low pressure has formed over Lakshadweep and adjoining south of Arabia, it may take the form of cyclonic storm Tauktae.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has prepared 53 teams to deal with the cyclone Tauktae being built in the Arabian Sea. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan tweeted on Friday that these teams are being deployed in the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra. They have expressed that 24 of these 53 parties have already been deployed, while the rest have been asked to be ready. A team of NDRF consists of about 40 personnel and they have tools for cutting trees and poles, boats, basic medicines and other relief and rescue items.
